Winnie's Critter Corner: Featured Animal Stories

On Monday July 28, 2008 we parted with our dear resident woodchuck Winnie. She fought a brief but hard battle against a very aggressive cancer. While she will no longer be begging at the refrigerator for peas there is no doubt that every time we open a can of peas at the Center, Winnie our favorite woodchuck, will be present in our thoughts.

Turtle Town

In addition to the cleaning and disinfection routine, on a weekly basis, the foliage and hiding areas provided in each reptile habitat is re-arranged to keep the turtles from becoming bored with their enclosure. Providing enrichment to our turtles is just as important as providing enrichment to any of our other long-term patients. Being stuck in an enclosure all winter can be incredibly dull, but when you re-arrange it and make it new, it’s exciting! They love to go back into their clean tubs and explore their new underwater jungles!

Winnie's ashes will find their final resting place at our new Center.

A memorial fund has been started on behalf of Winnie. Contributions will fund the future medical care of educational animals.
