WINC Volunteers are awesome page

Thank your for being an important part of the Wildlife In Need Center!  Without you we couldn't care for the over 2,000 animals who need our help each year or educate thousands of your friends and neighbors about the wildlife that surrounds us.

This page is your virtual bulletin board where you can find all the information you need as a valued volunteer at the Wildlife In Need Center. You can:

For times and dates view the calendar below.  For more detailed information check the descriptions below or contact someone in the office at 262-965-3090 from 9AM to 5PM seven days a week.  Classes listed on the calendar below are for current volunteers, but space is limited in many cases so please contact the Center at (262) 965-3090 or at volunteer@helpingwildlife.org to reserve your spot.

Please note that all volunteer enrichment classes will appear on the calendar above, but due to short lead times on scheduling, full descriptions may not be found here for some events.  Thank you for caring!

In February we celebrated another amazing year of helping animals in southeastern Wisconsin.  Volunteers and staff gathered on this occasion and honored some of the amazing people who helped to make that happen.

This year's Volunteer of the Year awards were given to volunteers Barb and Doty. Barb can be described as a dedicated, caring, and a hard-worker. When she doesn't show up transporting an animal in need of our care she's picked-up from the Humane Society on her way, she comes baring wonderfully homemade treats to share with everyone! She also is the creative mind behind many of Daphne’s handmade costumes. She is willing to do anything; even if it is a job that belongs on Dirty Jobs with Mike Rowe! She has spent Sunday afternoons adding wind-block branches to the aviaries in the dead of winter, been elbow deep in duck poop, help re-set animal cages for new patients and has done it all with a smile on her face! Doty is also dedicated, caring and a very hard worker. Besides her weekly animal care shift, she is our “Go To” person whenever we are in need of extra volunteer help and because she lives near WINC, she can be here in minutes when we call to ask. She rarely misses her regular shift or says no to our pleas for extra help. She has never hesitated to pitch-in or complained about the amount of cleaning necessary on every shift. She washes dishes and does laundry and still has a smile on her face.

We also gave a special award this year called the Rising Star.  It was given to Angela who has been with the Center for just a few short month and in that time has become a regular face when it comes to all of the daily cleaning and feeding, and extra help around the Center - often coming in for several shifts a week!  Thanks, Angela for being our "rising star" and for being someone the animals can really rely on.

Are you willing to become one of Waldo's Warriors?

  • Experience using hand and power tools such as hammers, drills, saws, etc. (it would be helpful if you can bring some of your own tools)

  • Ability to lift 50 lbs

  • Ability to use implements such as shovels, picks, and wheelbarrows

  • Available to help on Sundays or Mondays

Then We need you!

This “Crew” will be preparing some of our outdoor cages for the move to the new facility; making new cage bases and reassembling cages; and even building several exciting new enclosures at the new facility!

The Crew will be working with an expert cage builder that will lead the team.

Team members do not need to be current WINC volunteers.  So, if you know anyone who is qualified and willing to help out, please contact the Center to sign up and for more information.
