Wildlife In Need Center Internship Program
The Wildlife In Need Center provides internships to qualified
individuals who are looking to fulfill their college internship
requirements or who wish to expand their classroom knowledge to
include hands-on experience. Our flagship animal care internship program runs from
May to August during which interns are given the opportunity to work
with a wide range of wildlife patients during our busiest time of
year. But as we grow we now offer more opportunities including limited
animal care
opportunities
during our off seasons and nonprofit marketing and environmental
education internships year-round.
Our Facility
WINC is a non-profit organization that provides rehabilitation
for injured, ill, and orphaned native wildlife with the intent of
release. Located in Southeastern Wisconsin, we receive between
2000 and 3000 animals annually. We
also provide educational programs to the public with the use of our educational
animals.
Opportunities
Animal Care
Duties
encompass most aspects of
wildlife rehabilitation. This will include, but is not limited to: diet
preparation, cage maintenance, rescue, medical care, and release. Care is
provided for native birds, mammals, amphibians, and reptiles. If discussed
with your supervisor an internship can be
tailored to meet individual goals including research. Some evening and
weekend hours are involved and flexibility is appreciated. We hire a
combination of 4 to 10 full and part time AC interns during
the summer months with limited opportunities available year-round.
Qualified applicants must have a commitment to working with wildlife. Reliability,
responsibility, and an ability to work both independently and with others are also
a must. Previous animal handling or wildlife experience is a plus,
but not required.
